Mike Eglin (24) is rushed by his Broadalbin-Perth teammates after he delivered a game-winning, bases-loaded double in the bottom of the seventh inning to cap off a 7-6 Foothills Council victory over Scotia-Glenville Monday at Broadalbin-Perth High School.

BROADALBIN — In the fourth inning of Monday’s Foothills Council baseball game against Scotia-Glenville, Broadalbin-Perth loaded the bases, but could not get a run home thanks to strong defensive play by the Tartans.

With the momentum swung in its direction, Scotia-Glenville delivered three runs to the plate in its next at bat to build a 4-1 advantage.

Each team added two more runs to send the game into the bottom of the seventh with the Patriots trailing 6-3.

The Broadalbin-Perth batters showed patience at the plate, loading the bases with a walk, error and infield hit. Back-to-back walks plated a pair of runs and left the bases loaded for sophomore Mike Eglin.

Eglin delivered a game-winning double, scoring two runs to give the Patriots a 7-6 Foothills Council South victory.

“We have been struggling offensively, so we tried a little small ball [in the fourth inning] and it came back to bite us,” B-P coach RJ Pingatore said. “We knew if we got another opportunity, we would try things differently. We did and the kids came through. Mike Eglin early this season, he has come up a couple spots in these 3-to-2 or 5-to-4 games where he could put it away. Today things went his way and he redeemed himself. He did his job and the ball sailed over their heads.”

The victory earned the Patriots a split on the season, as Scotia-Glenville won 3-2 Friday on its home diamond.

The Tartans received a solid performance from starter Brayden Kramer, who allowed four hits, struck out four and walked none through six innings of work on the mound.

Scotia-Glenville coach John Striffler said, “The kids played hard and it was a good game all around. If you can’t throw strikes, you can’t win games. They got just one hit in the last inning and that was the shot. But that’s baseball.”

Broadalbin-Perth will host Gloversville on Wednesday afternoon to continue its South Conference play.

“Scotia-Glenville beat us down there Friday 3-2,” Pingatore said. “This was a good comeback win starting off our swing through the Southern teams. They are all rivalry games against Gloversville, Johnstown and Amsterdam. This kids off a nice stretch of games for us.”
