Robert J. Smitka

Robert J. Smitka, 69, Town of Perth, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Monday at his home.

Born April 14, 1943 in Amsterdam, New York, he was the son of the late Casper and Bernise Armstrong Smitka.

He was a graduate of the Wilbur H. Lynch High School. Robert was a U.S. Air force Veteran of the Vietnam War where he served in Okinawa.

He was employed for the Callanan Industries in Schenectady for a number of years until retiring in 2005.

Robert liked to work on his tractors and enjoyed listening to country music. He loved spending time with his family and close friends.

Survivors include his sister, Sandra A. Dominguez of Tolland, CT; and several nieces and a nephew. Very close friends, Paul and Lisa. Robert was predeceased by a brother, Thomas J. Smitka who passed away in 1978.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 19th at 2 pm at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam with the Rev. O. Robert DeMartinis officiating at which time military honors will take place.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday from 12:00 to 2:00 pm at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Robert's memory to the James Brennan Humane Society, 437 Nine Mile Tree Road, Gloversville, NY 12078.
