Robert M. Cosmer

Robert M. Cosmer, 80, passed away most peacefully at home, on February,15 2013.

Robert was born in Amsterdam, NY on August 9, 1932, to Michael and Doris (Juedes) Cosmer.

Robert graduated in 1950 from Amsterdam High School and attended Hutchinson Jr. College in Kansas while enlisted in the US Naval Air Force.

Robert retired from the Beneficial Finance Corporation (1991) after 34 years as the local branch manager.

Bob was a devoted husband to Louise (Merola) Cosmer for 56 years. Bob was also the loving father of four children, daughter, Susan Cosmer Leone, of Amsterdam, sons, Michael (Lori) Cosmer of Loudonville, Thomas (Lonnie) Cosmer of Wellesley, MA, and, Robert (Deborah) Cosmer, of Burnt Hills. Bob has seven grandchildren, Michael Cosmer, Alexander Cosmer, Tyler Cosmer, Christian Cosmer, Laura Cosmer, Jaimee Cosmer, and Gabriella Leone. Bob is also survived by his dear Aunt, Irene (Juedes) Koch of Amsterdam.

Bob will be remembered by many as a Past Grand Knight of Knights of Columbus, Council 209, Past President of Kiwanis Club, an active member of the Amsterdam MUNY Golf Course, and the Sacandaga Boat Club. Bob and Louise retired to Harwich, MA on Cape Cod where they had shared many vacations throughout the years with all of their family. In Harwich, Bob continued his community involvement with the Knights of Columbus and the Polish Festival for the Holy Trinity Church.

Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing, and the Great Sacandaga Lake with his father, grandfather, and beloved Uncle, Kenneth Juedes. Bob was an avid Yankees and Giants fan, even while living in Massachusetts, where he would engage in lively debates wherever he went. Once retired, Bob enjoyed cooking, and would often entertain his family and friends with his chili, chicken parmesan, or famous pancakes.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. O. Robert DeMartinis on Thursday afternoon, 5:00 p.m. at St. Mary's Church, 156 E. Main Street in Amsterdam.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit on Thursday, from 2:00-4:30 pm at the St. Mary's Chapel, also located at 156 E. Main Street.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Bob's name to the Animal Rescue League, 3981 Route 6A, Brewster, MA 02631.

Burial will be private at a later date.
