Two face drug charges

Two Amsterdam residents were arrested Thursday morning and charged with controlled substance charges.

Amsterdam Police Det. Lt. Kurt Conroy said Thursday that the arrests were unrelated.

Early Thursday morning, the Amsterdam Police SWAT team -- assisted by the New York State Police Capital Narcotics Enforcement Team and the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department -- executed a search warrant on Gorski Street.

Louie Gonzalez was arrested and charged with third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, a class B felony.

Conroy said the charge stems from a couple-month long investigation.

During the execution of the search warrant, police found about one-and-a-half ounces of cocaine in the residence, Conroy said, so Gonzalez was additionally charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class B felony.

He was remanded to Montgomery County Jail.

Police additionally served an arrest warrant Thursday morning on Shayra Ramos, of 10 Elizabeth St., for an unrelated incident.

Ramos was charged with third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, a class B felony.

Conroy said that during the execution of the arrest warrant, police discovered that Ramos was in possession of 20 "bumpies" of cocaine.

As a result, she was additionally charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substances, a class B felony.

She, too, was remanded to Montgomery County Jail.
