Amsterdam police are investigating a Sunday break-in at an Amsterdam jewelry store.

At 8:55 p.m. on May 12, police received a report of a burglary to the Ernesto Morales Jewelry and Repair Store in the Riverfront Center in the city of Amsterdam.

Amsterdam Police Department Det. Lt. Kurt Conroy said Tuesday that security officers discovered a broken window at the store while making their rounds Sunday evening.

"Officers responded and noticed the window had been broken from the inside out," Conroy said.

Conroy said it appears the suspect gained access to the suite via the ceiling and was able to get down in to the store and remove a "quite extensive" amount of jewelry.

That total amount is still being calculated by the shop owner, he said.

Police believe they have footage of a person leaving the Riverfront Center in that timeframe, but are unsure if it is indeed the suspect as the center was still open to the public when the burglary was discovered.

There are no suspects at this time. The burglary is still under investigation.
