Garden tours planned for July 20

ESPERANCE -- The George Landis Arboretum will host and educational garden tour from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 20.

Each garden on the tour will feature solutions to garden problems.

Some of those solutions include how to keep weeds away, repelling animal and and insect pests, integrating design elements into the landscape, organic gardening and achieving good garden results with less work.

Master gardeners from the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Fulton and Montgomery Counties will help arboretum volunteers by providing fact sheets and garden information. The garden owners will be available to talk about their work.

The tour locations are as follows:

* Ed Radie, 820 Millers Corners Road, Amsterdam

* Cindy King, 375 Langley Road, Amsterdam

* Nolan Marciniec, 137 Webb Road, Johnstown

* Glenbrook Farm, 142 Brooks Road, Glen.

Vegetable gardening will be highlighted at three of the locations, while the fourth will demonstrate how to make a business out of a garden.

Tickets are $5 per person or $10 per car for arboretum members, and $10 per person or $20 per car for non-members.

Tickets may be obtained in advance by calling the arboretum at 875-6935. On the day of the tour, tickets may be purchased at the Landis Arboretum, located at 174 Lape Road, Esperance, or at any of the participating gardens.

The rain date for the tour will be July 21.
